S3P technology: The next generation of PVD coatings for tools and components
The new coatings based on S3P (Scalable Pulsed Power Plasma) technology are characterized by exceptionally smooth surfaces and extreme density, hardness, adhesive strength and wear resistance. This pioneering combination of properties by the S3P technology represents a significant further development of the HiPIMS (High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering) method. Coatings applied using this industrially mature technique from Oerlikon Balzers are offered under the brand name of BALIQ in combination with the specific application. Applications are micro tools, reamers and taps but also moulds in the plastics processing industry. Last but not least BALIQ carbon-based coatings have also applications in coating of components.
